Kindergarten and a New Calling

Ryker started kindergarten! He absolutely loves his teacher, and he wakes up every morning so excited to go to school....I hope that his enthusiasm lasts a while:) I can't believe he has started kindergarten, but the fact that he loves it makes it a little easier on mom for sure:)

We have also had a very unexpected turn of events in our lives. Our ward was split a few weeks ago, and Shawn was called to be the Bishop of our newly created ward. Neither of us had any idea that this was in our future. In fact I remember a few months ago saying how excited I was that Shawn finished his schooling so that our lives wouldn't be as busy.........boy was I wrong!:) I must say though that we have both had some really neat experiences since he received this call, and we feel really blessed and supported by the ward members.

Wow! That is a change in your lives isn't it! A kindergartner and a Bishop!!! Well, I would say congratulations -- but I don't know if that is exactly appropriate - but congrats anyways. You'll do great! Good luck!

I know you guys will be blessed as you serve the Lord and those within your ward. What an overwhelming calling, but I'm sure you'll have many amazing experiences and lots of blessings too. You guys are awesome!! Ryker is sure growing up and getting so tall. Can't believe he's a school boy already!! It sure was great to see you this summer. Hope we see you again before next year! Love ya!

WOW!!! But I shouldn't act so surprised because truth be told I had Shawn pinned as a "general authority" not long after meeting him. He is also lucky to have such a good, sweet wife next to him. No doubt it will be a sacrifice at times but the immense blessings and experiences you will receive will be priceless...and not doubt you both will touch the lives of many.

Such good people. Such a good family. I am so happy I know you!

Go Ryker! Starting Kindergarten...can't believe it! Next year Carter goes and it breaks my heart a little. I agree CArter and Ryker would be good friends. So now we need to work out how to become neighbors! I say we need a Royal Crest 215 block...my dream neighbors...seriously how much fun would that be!

Wow! I can't imagine Mark being bishop now. If any young family can do it, it's yours.

I can't believe Ryker is in Kindergarten! It is crazy! I know he should be, but I can't believe it! Tanner will be there next year, and I am not ready to deal with school mornings! What a cutie though! And it really doesn't surprise me that Shawn is Bishop... he's just cool like that! You are all awesome, good luck with all the craziness and we miss you guys! I was telling Cory that a girl in our ward here must be related to you because she looks like you and is a sweet as you, so either it has just been a while and she really is nothing like you and I want her to be, or you have a long lost twin, or sister, or cousin, or something in Minnesota.

OHMYGOODNESS HOW AWESOME THAT YOUR A BISHOPS WIFE NOW!!! I'm with Laura on this not being any shock-- Shawn's always been someone everyone looks up to and he will do great!!!

I think one of the biggest sacrifices will be not seeing him a lot and not having him sit with you on Sundays. I grew up with my Dad in the bishopbric and stake office, and only remember him sitting with us once or twice (in my whole life). However, by having Dad up on the stand I would be on my best behavior too knowing that IF he gave me "that look" while he was sitting up there I would be in trouble when I got home. Yikes!

All in all I can't think of a better family to have this calling. You'll all do great and Shawn's lucky to have such a supportive wife to stand by his side through this. What a great team you are!!!

I also have to say what a handsome kindergartner you have there!! Glad he's having so much fun!! We love reading your blog!!!

P-S Thanks for your comment by the way-that made me smile--and we'll stick to the couch forever more when it comes to movie nights because of that! :)

I cannot believe Ryker is old enough to be in kindergarten! He is such a cutie! And wow, bishop--that is crazy--it doesn't surprise me though 'cause you guys are so awesome! You probably feel like a single mom though sometimes! Glad to see that you're doing well!

Congratulations!!!! I am sure the Lord knows what he is doing. Shawn will do great! And so will you. I know it.

Funny how it's that easy for me to say now......but I can totally relate to what you must be feeling because I was so there myself, when D was called back in Nov. 2003. And then he ended up being Bishop for three wards. That's how often the boundaries changed while he served for 5 years. ; D Crazy times. But SO rewarding for our family. HAve fun!

Ah, Bishop Atwood. In 25 years, just remember I called General Authority (there are many options as to what calling specifically, but I cover them all with 'General Authority'). :) He'll do such a great job and if anyone can handle the bishops wife load, it's you, Meg!! I just wish I could be there to sit with you (or Liv) on Sundays. It was SOOOOOO good seeing you guys! If I ever get the internet (I'm at Fry's right now) I'll send you over the pics I took. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time to look at them! I miss you tons and will talk to you soon. Love ya!

Ha! I just read Laura's comment...I guess great minds think alike! I guess we can share the fame when Shawn does indeed get called to be a General Authority. :)
